Family 1 is delighted to present the first MA Fine Art year 1 exhibition in the Cookhouse. Multimedia exhibition is a celebration of artworks in progress from Unit 1 project. The collective of artists is showcasing their research, techniques and concepts of their individual interest.

The title WAH WHA is a unifying aspect in the space, as artist we want to hear what sound the artwork is producing; whether it is through actual sound, evoking thought and conversation. It is recognising the way the language of art creates a universal sound of meaning.

The power of the 'everyday' is small yet immense, lurking in repetitive routines, gradually crystallising each individual life into a very different form. We always unconsciously overlook or forget how the land where we were born and raised nurtures our temperament, how default rules define our habits, and how insignificant encounters change our direction. But when we step back a little from life, the surges hidden in the everyday are surprisingly present, prompting us to reflect deeply on who we are, where we are and how we get here. How do we react in the face of such a quiet and powerful everyday? Accept it? Ignore it? Praise it? Curse it? Give in to it? Resist it? ...

This exhibition revolves around the reflections of x artists on everyday life. Their attitudes are varied, but they all choose to construct alternative scenarios of life through performative practices where they perform peculiar, absurd and abnormal actions. These actions remain trivial, but aim to subtly challenge the shaping and constraint from the everyday and gently inspire possibilities of self-refinement and self-liberation. This exhibition and these artists are hoping to become something like daily gossip, something that, when mentioned, one would not use a serious tone, but faintly say: It is said that something interesting is happening....
